Visiting a teacher's home

昨天晚上我们到老师家去做客。去的时候，雨下得很大，我们到老师的家雨就停了。

Zuótiān wǎnshàng wǒmen dào lǎoshī jiā qù zuòkè. Qù de shíhòu, yǔ xià de hěn dà, wǒmen dào lǎoshī de jiā yǔ jiù tíng le.

Last night we were guests at the teacher's house. When we went there, it rained heavily, and it stopped when we arrived at the teacher's house.

我家的院子不太大，但是很干净，也很安静。

Wǒjiā de yuànzi bú tài dà, dànshì hěn gānjìng, yě hěn ānjìng.

My yard is not very big, but it is very clean and quiet.

她一看我来，就走出来笑着说：“欢迎你来我家做客，请到屋里坐吧。”

Tā yí kàn wǒ lái, jiù zǒu chūlái xiàozhe shuō: “Huānyíng nǐ lái wǒ jiā zuòkè, qǐng dào wū lǐ zuò ba.”

As soon as she saw me coming, she came out and said with a smile: "You are welcome to my home. Please come and sit in the room."

她给我介绍了她的爸爸妈妈。

Tā gěi wǒ jièshào le tā de bàba māmā.

She introduced me to her parents.

我知道她的爸爸妈妈都是大学教授。

Wǒ zhīdào tā de bàba māmā dōu shì dàxué jiàoshòu.

I know that her parents are both university professors.

她热情地给我倒茶，请我吃水果。

Tā rèqíng de gěi wǒ dào chá, qǐng wǒ chī shuǐguǒ.

She enthusiastically poured me tea and invited me to eat fruit.

我跟她是同学，也是好朋友。

Wǒ gēn tā shì tóngxué, yě shì hǎo péngyǒu.

She and I are classmates and good friends.

你们跟我是同事，也是好朋友，到这儿来就像到自己家里一样，不要客气。

Nǐmen gēn wǒ shì tóngshì, yě shì hǎo péngyǒu, dào zhèr lái jiù xiàng dào zìjǐ jiā lǐ yíyàng, bú yào kèqì.

You and I are colleagues and good friends. Coming here is like coming to your own home. You are welcome.

她领着我走进了她的房间，房间不太大，周围摆着几个书架，书架里放着很多书，有中文的，也有外文的，还有文学和历史方面的。

Tā lǐng zhe wǒ zǒu jìn le tā de fángjiān, fángjiān bú tài dà, zhōuwéi bǎi zhe jǐ ge shūjià, shūjià lǐ fàng zhe hěnduō shū, yǒu zhōngwén de, yě yǒu wàiwén de, hái yǒu wénxué hé lìshǐ fāngmiàn de.

She led me into her room. The room was not too big, and there were several bookshelves around it. There were many books in the bookshelves, some in Chinese, some in foreign languages, as well as literature and history.

我看了一下，有很多书我都不知道。

Wǒ kàn le yí xià, yǒu hěnduō shū wǒ dōu bù zhīdào.

I took a look and found that there were many books that I didn’t know about.

我看的书都是翻译成越语的。

Wǒ kàn de shū dōu shì fānyì chéng yuèyǔ de.

The books I read were all translated into Vietnamese.

我房间里有一张写字台，写字台旁边放着一台新电脑，电脑还开着。

Wǒ fángjiān lǐ yǒu yì zhāng xiězì tái, xiězì tái pángbiān fàng zhe yì tái xīn diànnǎo, diànnǎo hái kāi zhe.

There is a desk in my room. Next to the desk is a new computer, which is still on.

我对中国文化了解得不多。

Wǒ duì zhōngguó wénhuà liǎojiě de bù duō.

I don't know much about Chinese culture.

这些书都是我爸爸留给我的。

Zhè xiē shū dōu shì wǒ bàba liú gěi wǒ de.

These books were all left to me by my father.

我们到客厅坐一会儿吧。

Wǒmen dào kètīng zuò yí huìr ba.

Let's sit in the living room for a while.

我很想学做越南菜。

Wǒ hěn xiǎng xué zuò yuènán cài.

I would love to learn how to cook Vietnamese food.

今天我请你们吃越南的春卷。

Jīntiān wǒ qǐng nǐmen chī yuènán de chūnjuǎn.

Today I treat you to Vietnamese spring rolls.

我走进客厅的时候，他们正在准备包越南春卷。

Wǒ zǒu jìn kètīng de shíhòu, tāmen zhèngzài zhǔnbèi bāo yuènán chūnjuǎn.

When I walked into the living room, they were preparing Vietnamese spring rolls.

你们俩坐着聊天吧，我一个人做就行了。

Nǐmen liǎ zuò zhe liáotiān ba, wǒ yí ge rén zuò jiùxíng le.

You two sit and chat, I can do it alone.

我洗了手就开始包春卷。

Wǒ xǐ le shǒu jiù kāishǐ bāo chūnjuǎn.

I washed my hands and started wrapping spring rolls.

来越南以后我吃过一两次春卷，但是没有包过春卷。

Lái yuènán yǐhòu wǒ chī guò yì liǎng cì chūnjuǎn, dànshì méiyǒu bāo guò chūnjuǎn.

I have eaten spring rolls once or twice since coming to Vietnam, but I have never made spring rolls.

我不会包越南春卷，包了半天才包了一个。

Wǒ bú huì bāo yuènán chūnjuǎn, bāo le bàntiān cái bāo le yí ge.

I don’t know how to make Vietnamese spring rolls, so it took me a long time to make one.

我们一边包春卷一边聊天，很热闹。

Wǒmen yì biān bāo chūnjuǎn yì biān liáotiān, hěn rènao.

We were making spring rolls and chatting, which was very lively.

我很喜欢这种欢乐的家庭气氛。

Wǒ hěn xǐhuān zhè zhǒng huānlè de jiātíng qìfēn.

I love this happy family atmosphere.

你包的春卷很好吃。

Nǐ bāo de chūnjuǎn hěn hǎo chī.

The spring rolls you made are delicious.

吃完春卷，我们坐了一会儿，然后对她说，我该走了，谢谢你，今天我过得很愉快。

Chī wán chūnjuǎn, wǒmen zuò le yí huìr, ránhòu duì tā shuō, wǒ gāi zǒu le, xièxie nǐ, jīntiān wǒ guò de hěn yúkuài.

After eating the spring rolls, we sat for a while and then I said to her, it's time for me to go, thank you, I had a great time today.

她一直送我走出大门，对我说：“欢迎你常来玩儿。”

Tā yì zhí sòng wǒ zǒu chū dàmén, duì wǒ shuō: “Huānyíng nǐ cháng lái wánr.”

She kept walking me out of the door and said to me: "You are welcome to come and play often."

过春节的时候，差不多家家都贴对联。

Guò chūnjié de shíhòu, chàbùduō jiā jiā dōu tiē duìlián.

During the Spring Festival, almost every house posted couplets.

我天天都坚持去操场锻炼身体。

Wǒ tiān tiān dōu jiānchí qù cāochǎng duànliàn shēntǐ.

I insist on going to the playground to exercise every day.

人人都要遵守交通规则。

Rén rén dōu yào zūnshǒu jiāotōng guīzé.

Everyone must obey traffic rules.
