Pattern

Usage

• "加以" (jiāyǐ) and "予以" (yǔyǐ) are formal dummy/disposal verbs that cannot stand alone and must be followed by a disyllabic verb carrying a nominalized meaning:
• (1) "加以 + disyllabic V" (proceed to V / subject to V): emphasizes handling, analyzing, or transforming an existing issue or object—e.g., 加以分析 (analyze), 加以研究 (study), 加以解决 (resolve), 加以利用 (utilize), 加以改进 (improve).
• (2) "予以 + disyllabic V" (grant / accord / impose V): literally "give with", used in administrative or legal contexts where an authority grants approval, recognition, or punishment—e.g.,
