•者 attaches to verbs, adjectives, or verb phrases to form nouns (强者, 与会者) or discourse pointers (前者, 后者); do not attach to plain nouns.
⚠️ Common Mistakes:
•Attaching 者 directly after a regular noun: 者 only attaches to verbs, adjectives, or demonstrative/numeral roots.
•Confusing 者 with 的 by using "V + 者 + Noun" as an attributive modifier: "V + 者" is already a complete noun!
•Using formal "phrase + 者" constructions to refer to friends/family in warm casual conversation.
