Pattern

At HSK 5, the frame 在…上/下/中/方面 extends beyond physical location to express abstract scopes and conditions: (1) 在…上 indicates an aspect or dimension (在学习上, 在工作上); (2) 在…下 indicates a condition, support, or pressure (在父母的支持下, 在老师的帮助下); (3) 在…中 indicates being in the middle of a process or environment (在工作中, 在生活中); (4) 在…方面 specifies a particular field or domain (在语言学习方面).
Never confuse their collocations (e.g., conditions like 帮助, 支持, 领导, 影响 require 下, not 上), and do not omit the initial preposition 在.

Zài fùmǔ de zhīchí xià, tā zhōngyú wánchéng le xuéyè.
With his parents' support, he finally completed his studies.

•上 marks an aspect, 下 marks a condition/support, 中 marks an ongoing process, and 方面 marks a specific domain.

⚠️ Common Mistakes:

•Using 上 instead of 下 for conditions or support (*在父母的帮助上 instead of 在父母的帮助下).

•Omitting the preposition 在 at the beginning of the prepositional frame.
