Usage

• The correlative pair 既……又…… (jì... yòu...) coordinates two coexisting qualities, capabilities, or states belonging to a single subject, meaning “both... and...” or “as well as”.
• While functionally comparable to colloquial 又……又…… from HSK 3, 既……又…… carries a markedly more elegant, formal, and written-style tone.
• The components following 既 and 又 must belong to the exact same grammatical category (both adjectives or both verb phrases) and share compatible emotional polarity (both positive or both negative).
• For instance: 这个房间既宽敞又明亮 ('This room is both spacious and bright').
