Pattern

• 既然 + Fact，(Subject) + 就 + Verb phrase

Usage

• 既然…就… is used to make a deduction, recommendation, or decision based on a premise that both the speaker and listener already acknowledge as true.
• The 既然 clause states an established fact; the 就 clause presents a reasonable conclusion or piece of advice based on that fact.
• Unlike 因为…所以… (which states an objective cause-and-effect relationship), 既然…就… carries a subjective, persuasive, or advisory tone.
• The second clause is often an imperative, suggestion, or rhetorical conclusion, frequently containing modal words like 应该, 必须, 不要, or 别.
• Do not confuse 既然 ("since") with 虽然 ("although")

Examples

1. 1

   既然你不舒服，就早点回家休息吧。

   Jìrán nǐ bù shūfu, jiù zǎodiǎn huí jiā xiūxi ba.

   Since you are not feeling well, go home early and rest.

2. 2

   既然决定了，就要坚持到底。

   Jìrán juédìng le, jiù yào jiānchí dàodǐ.

   Since you have made the decision, you must persist to the end.

3. 3

   既然来了，就多玩几天吧。

   Jìrán lái le, jiù duō wán jǐ tiān ba.

   Since you're already here, stay and have fun for a few more days.
