首先……其次…… (shǒuxiān……qícì……) – first … second / next …

Pattern

• 首先 + Clause 1，其次 + Clause 2，(最后 + Clause)

Usage

• A formal pair of sequencing words used in writing or speeches to lay out arguments, steps or priorities point by point; often rounded off with 最后.

Examples

   选择住处时，首先要考虑交通是否方便，其次要看环境是否安静。

   Xuǎnzé zhùchù shí, shǒuxiān yào kǎolǜ jiāotōng shìfǒu fāngbiàn, qícì yào kàn huánjìng shìfǒu ānjìng.

   When choosing a place to live, first consider whether transport is convenient, and next whether the area is quiet.

   首先，我要感谢大家的支持；其次，我想介绍一下新的计划。

   Shǒuxiān, wǒ yào gǎnxiè dàjiā de zhīchí; qícì, wǒ xiǎng jièshào yíxià xīn de jìhuà.

   First, I'd like to thank everyone for their support; second, I'd like to introduce the new plan.
