The Fundamental 把 Sentence (Disposal Structure)

Meaning: Places the definite object before the verb to highlight its disposal and resulting state

Pattern

The 把 (bǎ) disposal construction is one of the most essential and distinctive structures in Chinese grammar.
It shifts the object from its customary post-verbal position to directly before the verb.
Basic pattern: Subject + 把 + Definite Object + Verb + Other Component.
For example: 我把作业做完了 (I finished my homework), 请把门关上 (Please close the door).
Vital operational rules: (1) The verb must be an action verb with disposal effect, causing a change of state, position, or condition to the object; (2) The verb CANNOT stand bare by itself — it must always be accompanied by a following element, such as a result complement

•The verb must be followed by additional elements. Negation precedes 把: 没 + 把.

⚠️ Common Mistakes:

•Incorrect: 我把书看。 → Correct: 我把书看完了。 (verb in 把 sentence cannot stand alone)

•Incorrect: 我把不书看。 → Correct: 我没把书看完。 (negation must precede 把)
