Usage

• A colloquial phrase standing alone at the start of a reply, showing full agreement with the previous speaker (literally a rhetorical “isn't it so?”); usually followed by a further comment.

Examples

   ——今天天气真冷啊！——可不是，风刮得特别大。

   —Jīntiān tiānqì zhēn lěng a! —Kě bú shì, fēng guā de tèbié dà.

   "It's really cold today!" "You can say that again – and it's so windy."

   ——这孩子越来越像他爸爸了。——可不是嘛！

   —Zhè háizi yuèláiyuè xiàng tā bàba le. —Kě bú shì ma!

   "This kid looks more and more like his dad." "Doesn't he just!"
