一时 vs 一旦yīshí vs yīdàn

Pattern

Although both start with 一, 一时 and 一旦 have completely different meanings and structures: (1) 一时 ("for a moment / momentarily / on the spur of the moment") describes a brief, temporary state—most commonly a momentary mental block with negative or potential complements such as 一时想不起来, 一时说不出, or 一时没反应过来.
(2) 一旦 ("once / in case") introduces a hypothetical or contingent condition (often urgent or consequential), paired with 就 in the main clause: 一旦 + Condition, (S) + 就 + Result (e.g., 一旦下定决心，就不要轻易放弃).
