Usage

• The 把 (bǎ) sentence is one of the most distinctive and essential grammatical structures in Chinese at the HSK 3 level.
• It is used to express that the subject acts upon, disposes of, or changes a specific object in a definite manner.
• Unlike normal SVO word order, the object is placed before the verb via the preposition 把.
• A fundamental rule is that the verb cannot stand completely alone ('bare verb'); it must be followed by additional elements, such as a result complement, directional complement, aspect particle 了, or quantified phrase.
• Furthermore, the object following 把 must be definite, specific, or already known to both speakers, rather than a generic noun.
• The 把 construction is mandatory in numerous situations, particularly when specifying a change of location (e.g., 'put the book on the table')
