Usage

• To describe an action in progress, Chinese uses the adverbs 正在 (zhèngzài), 在 (zài), or 正 (zhèng) placed immediately before the verb.
• Additionally, the modal particle 呢 (ne) can be placed at the end of the sentence to reinforce the ongoing tone.
• The full structure is: Subject + 正在/在/正 + Verb + Object + 呢.
• While all three words convey the meaning of “currently / in the middle of”, they possess subtle nuances: 正在 emphasizes both the exact point in time and the ongoing process, 在 focuses primarily on the unfolding process, and 正 highlights the precise moment.
