Pattern

Unlike the dynamic particle 了 placed after a verb, sentence-final 了 functions as a modal particle signifying a change of state or the emergence of a new situation.
The basic structure is: Complete sentence + 了.
When using this form, the speaker highlights that things are now different compared to before.
For example, 我饿了 means “I have become hungry” (implying I was not hungry earlier, but now I am).
This is an essential and widely used grammatical pattern in daily communication.
Furthermore, sentence-final 了 can combine with adjectives to indicate a new physical or mental state, or with verbs denoting transition such as 来

•Sentence-final 了 signals “change of state”, distinct from post-verbal 了 for completed action.
