Expressing Time: Hours and Minutes (Hour + 点, Minute + 分)

Meaning: Telling time: Hours (diǎn) and Minutes (fēn)

Pattern

Hour + 点 + Minute + 分

Usage

Also follows the order from largest to smallest unit: [Hour] + 点 (diǎn) + [Minute] + 分 (fēn).

Examples

现在八点十八分。
Xiànzài bā diǎn shíbā fēn.
It is 8:18 now.
2
三点十五分。
Sān diǎn shíwǔ fēn.
3:15 / Quarter past three.

Notes

2 o'clock is 两点 (liǎng diǎn), not 二点. For minutes under 10, líng is usually included (e.g., 8:05 is 8点05分: bā diǎn líng wǔ fēn).
