Reading Phone Numbers and Room Numbers (Digit 1 as 幺 - yāo)

Pattern

• Read digit by digit (1 -> yāo, 0 -> líng)

Usage

• When reading phone numbers, room numbers, or ID numbers, Chinese speakers read each digit individually from left to right, and 1 is usually pronounced as 幺 (yāo) to avoid confusion with 7 (qī).
