Pattern

• Subject + 越 + Verb 1 + 越 + Verb 2/Adjective

Usage

• 越…越… expresses that as the degree of A increases, the degree of B increases proportionally.
• Common patterns include: (1) S + 越 + V1 + 越 + V2/Adj (e.g., 越学越喜欢 — "the more I study, the more I like it"), and (2) 越 + V + 越 + Adj describing a natural progression (e.g., 雨越下越大 — "the rain is getting heavier and heavier as it falls").
• A closely related pattern is 越来越 + Adj/V ("more and more... over time"), which describes a single quality changing progressively over time rather than two linked actions.
• Note that 越 must be followed by a verb or adjective, never a noun, and do not add degree adverbs like 很
