Advanced comparison with 比 (bǐ) and 更 (gèng) / 还 (hái)

Meaning: Even more... than... (comparative with 更/还 or difference complement)

Pattern

Building on the basic HSK 2 pattern “A 比 B + Adjective”, HSK 3 introduces two important extensions:
1.
Adding 更 (even more) or 还 (still more) BEFORE the adjective when B already has that quality: 今天比昨天更冷 (Today is even colder than yesterday), 他比我还高 (He is even taller than me).
2.
Adding a specific difference or degree AFTER the adjective: 弟弟比哥哥小三岁 (The younger brother is 3 years younger than the older brother), 比那个贵一点 (a little more expensive than that one), 比她高得多 (much taller than her)

今天比昨天更冷。
Jīntiān bǐ zuótiān gèng lěng.
Today is even colder than yesterday.

他比我还高呢!
Tā bǐ wǒ hái gāo ne!
He is even taller than me!

弟弟比哥哥小三岁。
Dìdi bǐ gēge xiǎo sān suì.
The younger brother is three years younger than the older brother.

•Never use 很 or 非常 before the adjective in a 比 comparison sentence.

⚠️ Common Mistakes:

•Using 很 before the adjective in a 比 sentence: WRONG 他比我很高 → RIGHT 他比我更高.

•Negating a comparison with 没有 ('not as... as') is much more natural than 不比.
